Sage MAS 500 Version 7.3 Preview
Sage MAS 500 ERP Version 7.3 is scheduled for release this fall. In this article, we will provide a quick overview of the new business management capabilities, discuss the updated platform support, and provide a detailed look at the new Credit Card Processing capabilities included in Sage MAS 500 Version 7.3.

New Capabilities For Better Business Management

The 7.3 release includes a powerful set of capabilities for better business management, including many that previously were available only through the purchase of a Product Extension. Here is a high-level overview:
  • Integrated Credit Card Processing
  • ACH: Receive and transmit payments electronically via the Automated Clearing House. Both U.S. and Canadian formats are included.
  • Positive Pay: Send an electronic file to your bank for check verification before payment.
  • PDF Document Transmittal: Send various documents in a PDF format.
  • Login with Full Company Name.
  • SO Line Detail Bulk Update: Apply changes to ship to address, ship via, and delivery method across multiple sales order lines.
  • Invoice Merge: Combine multiple shipments into a single invoice.
  • Vendor Merge: Combine multiple AP vendors and their records into one.
  • Customer Merge: Combine multiple AR customers and related records into a single customer.
  • Enhanced workflow in Inventory Physical count.
  • Updated look and feel for the Sage MAS 500 desktop.
  • New source code included in the SDK toolkit.
Updated Platform Support

The 7.3 release provides support for all the latest server and operating system technologies, including Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, and .Net 3.5. Citrix XenApp Server, MS Terminal Services/Hyper-V, and VM Ware also are supported. The release also is compatible with Vista SP1 and XP SP3.

Support is being retired for SQL Server 2000 and Windows 2000 Server and Client. Note that support for 1099 and other yearend updates was retired for Version 7 in December 2008, and that the last 1099 update for Version 6.3 will be December 2009.

Built-In Credit Card Processing

With Version 7.3, extensive credit card processing capabilities will be built into Sage MAS 500, and will be accessible from many key areas within the software. These capabilities are available at no charge for customers electing to use Sage Payment Solutions as the processor. For customers wishing to use other processors, a Snap-In connector interface makes it easy to build the connection. A PayPal interface is also available.

Flexible Processing Options

The Credit Card Processing (CCP) module will allow you to use multiple credit card types for each customer, and even use more than one processor. Full support is provided for both Level I and Level II transactions. Level I transaction are for purchases made with personal credit cards issued from U.S. banks and Level II transactions occur when processing a corporate credit card. More information is required for Level II transactions, and the CCP module can pass it to the processor. Lower fees may result when using the supported address verification and card security codes for your transactions. Processing transactions in other currencies also is supported. Connectivity to the Internet is supported from both the client and the application server.

Process Credit Cards Throughout The System

The CCP module allows you to initiate and manage credit card transactions from many areas of the software. Here we take a roles-based perspective of the available tasks.
  • Sales: When processing a sale, you can use CCP to process a deposit or down payment. Multiple authorizations per order are supported, so at the same time you can process a pre-authorization for the balance due. You can even use different credit cards to process partial payments against the order.
  • In The Warehouse: For orders with a long lead time, you may want to re-authorize a sale before picking, to make sure funds are available. This is supported within the Picking function.
  • Shipping: To confirm that a credit card transaction is valid before shipping, CCP allows you to capture funds during shipping (before invoicing). Within the Shipping function you also can reauthorize a new amount resulting from a partial shipment. Flexible error handling allows you to stop a shipment or generate an invoice balance when credit card transactions do not go through.
  • Accounts Receivable: Accounts receivable personnel can easily process both payments and refunds on credit cards through the Cash Receipts function. They also can apply credit card payments when invoicing in the AR module.
  • Customer Care: For ease in managing customer credit card information, multiple credit card details can be stored in the customer record, no matter where the transaction originates. A credit card details screen allows you to easily see all transactions performed for a customer, and you have the option to automatically alert customers when their credit card is about to expire.
  • Storefront: If you have a retail order desk that processes credit cards outside Sage MAS 500, a built-in capability allows you to easily import orders with credit card payments, or import cash receipts for completed transactions.
  • Reporting: For reconciliation purposes, several reports are built in to CCP. These include Settlement, Activity, Forecast, and Exceptions. Explorer views also provide access to summarized credit card transaction information.
  • Security: When it comes to sensitive credit card data, security is of the highest importance. The system is fully PCI-compliant, with encrypted card storage and logged key changes. Communication is secured, and SPS Vaulting is supported.
