MOVING FROM A MANUAL SYSTEM
Founded in 1990, the fledgling company started off using a manual system
consisting of ledgers and cash deposits. It quickly became apparent that
this would not work for the long haul. Turning to their CPA for guidance,
they were referred to Southeast Computer Solutions. “It was not practical
for us to maintain a manual system, nor was it the best solution to select
an entry level package,” said Lori Marks, Vice President of Accounting and
Finance “Our founder, Jeff Strong, had a vision that we would grow into a
multi-million dollar company.” With this in mind, they purchased Sage MAS
200, which accommodated the number of users, multiple locations and
increased transaction volume.
CUSTOM DEVELOPMENT IMPROVES CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP
“We feel very comfortable working with Southeast Computer Solutions,”
said Lori. “One of the key things for us was that Southeast Computer Solutions
has their own programmers and were able to make modifications to
the system so it matched the way we did business. The system development
was seamless and since we dealt with just one company, there was
no finger pointing. Southeast Computer Solutions is consistently able to
keep up with the growth of Tides Marine by adapting the Sage MAS 200
system.
SHIPPING SYSTEM SAVES TIME
When StarShip was released, Southeast Computer Solutions made sure we
knew about the system. We purchased it and it has made life much easier,”
said Lori. “Not only does it integrate perfectly, but the warehouse is able to
pull up orders and when it is shipped through StarShip, it automatically
creates an invoice. This is a huge time savings for our accounts receivable
person and we are able to get our invoices out much quicker. Having the
shipping information write back to the customer file is also very helpful.”
VALUABLE RELATIONSHIP WITH SCS
“We send a lot of our staff to training at Southeast Computer Solutions’ Authorized
Training Center and I continue to attend training classes to keep myself up
to speed on all the new features,” said Lori.
“I really value the accessibility of Southeast Computer Solutions. When I have a
problem or a question, they always return my call very promptly and resolve the
issue rapidly,” said Lori. In addition, Tides Marine has utilized remote support via
desktop streaming. “This allows a consultant to see exactly what is going on with
our system and correct the issue right then and there for me.”
In 2001, Tides Marine opened up an office in England. They purchased Sage MAS
200 and use it to run their distribution office. “With remote capabilities of Sage
MAS 200, I am able to log into our office in England and do the accounting work I
need to do, all from my desk here,” said Lori. Moving forward, Tides Marine is
considering expanding its European presence. Their first call was to Southeast.
